Juan Orozco


Juan Orozco (Baritone) was born in Hidalgo, Mexico.

Graduated with honours from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City and is a two-time recipient of awards from National Foundation for Arts and Culture.

He trained with Enrique Jaso Mendoza, and has also taken part in masterclasses with Zéger Vandersteene, Stefan Kozinski, Tito Capobianco and Agnese Sartori.

Juan made his debut with Compañía Nacional de Opera del Teatro de Bellas Artes as Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, after which followed numerous engagements in Mexican opera houses. He won first prize in the national singing contest ‘Carlo Morelli’, as well as repeated invitations to perform at the festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato.

In 2007, he made his German debut in Theater Bremen, and since then has added guest appearances at Staatstheaters in Darmstadt, Oldenburg, Nürnberg, Munich (Gärtnerplatz) and Braunschweig Konzert Theater Bern, Palacio de Bellas Artes México und Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He was engaged for the Premier of the Japanese opera Yusuru by I. Kann, also the World Premier of Kantate der Träume by Arturo Marquez; also a considerable number of concert and oratorio appearances, including touring Mexico with Carmina Burana and Beethoven 9th Symphony.

Since Season 2008/9, Juan has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Freiburg, singing the eponymous roles in Simon Boccanegra, Rigoletto and Nabucco Pandolfe ( Cendrillon) Massenet, Le Conde de Toulouse ( Jerusalem ) Verdi , J.Prus ( Makropulos Case ) Janacek , Amonasro ( Aida) Verdi , Lindorf, Copelius, Dr. Miracle und Dapertuto ( Les Contes d' Hofmann) Offenbach. as well as Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera, Michonnet (Adriana Lecouvreur), Scarpia (Tosca), Jago (Otello), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Guido di Montfort (I Vespri Siciliani), and Michele (Il Tabarro).

Juan has also sung Heerufer in Lohengrin, and Amfortas in Parsifal, a role which he will reprise in the coming Theater Freiburg tour to Norwich England for Wagnerfest 2014.

Forthcoming also are further guest performances of Il Tabarro in Guerrero, Tosca in Chihuahua México as well as Escamillo in Carmen and Di Luna in Il Trovatore , Dulcamara in Elisir d’amore in the coming Freibug season.
